Thanksgiving Thoughts

Thanksgiving, after all, is a word of action. - W.J. Cameron

We have a lot to be grateful for not only this Thursday on Thanksgiving day but every single day of our lives. Depending on how we see everything around us, gratitude allows us to feel satisfied with what we have, enjoy the people and things in our life, and have enough to be able to reach out and help somebody else.

Eight hundred million people in the world have nothing to eat as we sit with our loved ones to enjoy our Thanksgiving feast. According to Bread for the World agency, 35.1 million hungry people are from the United States alone — the only place in the world that wastes 3,044 pounds of food per second. Indeed, the US is the only wealthy country that still allows hunger within its borders.

Do we really care enough to do something about it? Next year will be a crucial election year in the United States and we will be choosing leaders who will make important decisions. By voting leaders who are committed to doing more to reduce hunger and poverty in the United States and worldwide, we can make a difference in the lives of poor and hungry people everywhere. Volunteering in our community and church is also a great way to help. Being supportive to a local organization can help alleviate hunger in our own little way.
