For almost a week I went off and left the Fitchburg’s Voice community running all by itself, while I was busy working on another campaign website. I figured I will be able to launch this site two days before my target date. Surprisingly, I launched it a lot earlier than I thought.
The site I am referring to was Marcus DiNatale’s. Marcus is the only son of Rep. Stephen DiNatale, D-Fitchburg; he is currently serving a four-year term on the city’s School Committee and is running for Councilor at-Large. I haven’t talked to him in person, but from the way we exchange email back and forth, I find him very pleasant, intellectual and pretty precise on what he wants.
It is very encouraging to see young people like him running for an office because younger people are always full of energy. They have great ideas; they like change and they tend to be more idealistic than the older ones. On the other hand, Fitchburg lacks the luster of life. It is in dire need of revitalization. An urgent change. A continual progress towards identified goals.
I get affected when I hear from others nasty things about Fitchburg because I live in Fitchburg, my husband grew up here, and we are definitely raising our daughter together in this place. As a parent, I would love to witness Fitchburg develop and become a place free from crime, drugs and violence. There is no time to waste for bickering and finger-pointing. Fitchburg must move forward and people must choose a set of moral leaders sharing a common vision and working towards a common goal. Leaders who can unite a community despite its diversity. Leaders who can walk the talk.
