Be careful what you say about blogs. Blogs, especially political ones, have had a good share of attention in the past years and Fitchburg residents are becoming avid fans of them. For the record: according to M:Metrics, 7.5 million Americans accessed blog or social networks on their mobile in June 2007 alone. A year ago, Forrester Research said that 21% of online youths read and visit others’ blogs regularly compared with 10% of adults. Among all blog readers, 53% of youths read blogs weekly or more often, almost twice the percentage of adults.
With the enormous amount of information online, I couldn’t help but ask why blogs get that much attention. I can only assume that because of the inherent nature of blogs which focuses on “real” people’s opinions and experiences, people think that blogs are personal and therefore have no hidden agenda. People read blogs because they want to know what their contemporaries are thinking. They want to know if their own thoughts and ideas are reflected by others.
As a volunteer blogger for Fitchburg, I try my best to write about my own thoughts. But with all the information readily made available out there, I can’t really say that my thoughts are not influenced by others as well. Honestly, I also get worried about people getting a wrong impression about me. I am just a regular resident of Fitchburg who tries to be a good wife to Bruce and enjoys being a mom every day. I write this blog as my sincere effort to raise awareness about the community and to help the city of Fitchburg grow.
